Mesilla Valley Balloon Rally

Dates: January 16th - 18th

The Mesilla Valley Balloon Rally brings a burst of color to the winter sky in Las Cruces, with three days of dawn ascensions and glowing evening displays.

What to expect

Each morning, full-size hot air balloons launch from the southwest dirt lot at Field of Dreams around sunrise, while RC (radio-controlled) balloons perform in the west parking lot.

Evening glows transform the Field of Dreams into a sea of illuminated balloons, giving spectators an up-close look at the burners, colors, and sounds of the rally.

Key details for readers

  • Dates: January 16–18, 2026, with school and media events kicking things off on Friday.

  • Locations: Field of Dreams (2300 Tashiro Dr) for launches and main activities, plus a Friday night Kick Off Glow at the Downtown Plaza (100 N Main St).

  • Weather note: All ballooning is weather dependent, and pilots have the final say on whether conditions are safe enough to fly.

Spotlight: Los Leones de Mesilla Lions Club

Los Leones de Mesilla is a dedicated Lions Club in Mesilla, New Mexico, addressing community needs through service and fundraising. Aligned with Lions Clubs International, it focuses on local impact.

Mission and Causes

The club supports nine global causes: vision, diabetes, hunger, environment, mental illness, childhood cancer, disaster relief, youth, and humanitarian services. All fundraising proceeds directly benefit the community.

Ongoing Service Projects

Members conduct eye screenings for grades 1–3 in Las Cruces Public Schools to detect vision issues early. They also staff booths at health fairs and gun shows to promote Lions initiatives.

Local Community Work

The club maintains the roadside from Andele’s Restaurant to Spotted Dog Brewery for environmental stewardship. It provides annual luminarias for Mesilla Plaza and grants for disaster relief in areas like Ruidoso.

Signature Events and Fundraising

The 21st Annual Car Show at Mesilla Town Hall featured 100 participants, raising funds for Thanksgiving turkeys. Last November at the Anthony Community Feast they served over 850 people.

Los Leones de Mesilla embodies the "We Serve" motto, enhancing New Mexico communities.

We invite you to join our club! We welcome anyone from the Mesilla Valley to come and learn more about how you can help our community. Our club is in the Town of Mesilla, but we welcome members from surrounding areas, including Las Cruces, Doña Ana, Mesilla Park, La Mesa and beyond.

We meet 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 6:30 pm, La Posta. Next meeting is February 3rd.
This is your official invitation, all are welcome!
