Hello {{First Name|Las Cruces}},

Father's Day's coming up fast, in less than 2 weeks on June 21st. We've got some genuinely good stuff happening in Las Cruces this month — time to treat dad to some fun stuff!

Cooling Stations Open This Week

With triple-digit heat in the forecast, the City of Las Cruces is opening several cooling stations Tuesday through Thursday, June 9–11, to give residents a safe place to escape the extreme temperatures.

These air-conditioned spaces will be available during daytime hours, and residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm specific schedules.

Locations open as cooling stations this week:

  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., (575) 528-2455

  • Henry R. Benavidez Community Center, 1045 McClure Road, (575) 541-2006

  • Munson Center, 975 S. Mesquite St., (575) 541-3000

  • Sage Café, 6121 Reynolds Drive, (575) 528-3151

  • Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave.

  • Mesilla Valley Intermodal Transit Terminal, 300 W. Lohman Ave.

  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center (designated areas), 1600 E. Hadley Ave.

City officials are also reminding everyone to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time in the sun, and check in on vulnerable neighbors, relatives, and pets as the heat wave settles in.

Talking About Staying Cool 😎

New Mexico Snow just dropped their Season 2 Grand Opening — shaved ice, clothing, and gifts all under one roof at 439 E. Organ Ave., and if you missed the June 6th debut, don't worry, the vibe is just getting started.

Come Early to Beat the Heat

If you’re still showing up late to the Mesilla Plaza Mercado, you’re doing it wrong. Summer hours are officially in play — 9am to 2pm — which means the real ones are out there early, scoring the best produce, crafts, and low-key bragging rights before the sun starts throwing punches. Get there early or get the leftovers

The Barela Store at Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site

A unique gift shop on the Mesilla Plaza

The Barela Store

If you haven't wandered into the Barela Store on Mesilla Plaza yet, you're missing one of those rare places that actually gets it right—a gift shop that doesn't feel like a gift shop. Everything here is thoughtfully chosen: books, textiles, handmade jewelry, folk art, and finds from across the Southwest and beyond. Plus, it's 100% volunteer-run, which means when you buy something, you're directly supporting the Friends of the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site and the events and programs that keep this corner of our valley alive.
